About the Artist

Virginia Deaver’s paintings are in dialogue with the body as a site of instinct, rupture, and transformation. Throughout her practice, she draws on literature, performance, and the emotional landscape of the American South to explore how desire, vulnerability, and absurdity collide. Her recent works layer fragments of gesture, nature, and narrative—moments of impact, hesitation, or ethical tension—until the figure dissolves into a scene that feels both intimate and volatile. These new paintings extend her ongoing interest in how people navigate pressure, longing, and instability, and how personality and instinct surface through material and mark.
